The Little Red Hen by Paul Galdone

Once upon a time a cat, a dog, a mouse, and a little red hen lived in a house together. The hen asked, "Who wants to rake the leaves?" and everyone said "Not I!" Then the hen asked, "Who wants to wash the dishes?" and again everyone said, "Not I!" Whenever hen would ask themto do something everyone said, "Not I!" So, hen had to do a lot of the dishes and the cleaning by herself. No one wanted to helpher with anything. But when hen baked a cake, everyone shouted, "I will" when she asked, "Who will eat the cake?" But hen said, "I will eat it all by myself!" since she was the only one who gathered everything together andworked very hard. Afterwards, everyone waswilling to help clean up around the house.
